Placement blog: Day Five.

Today I have been working towards work assigned by Megan. I’m searching the internet for articles which convey scepticism about foreign aid, it’s quite a long process as I am reading them through for content. I’ve also done some more work on the other project I was set just to wrap it up. All in all not much to write about today.

Placement Blog: Day Four.

This morning I had a meeting with Megan (director) about how we could integrate my case study with some of the projects that are on-going at the company. We talked about my views regarding overseas aid too. The project we are undertaking is aimed at dealing with “sceptics” of overseas aid, and how to convince the public to spend their money on it. This is something I am personally against, but in the spirit of professionalism I will work to the best of my ability on it and possibly learn a lot on the journey

Placement Blog: Day Three.

Today I have continued working on the how to guide piece from yesterday. I’m trying to stagger this piece so it takes a bit longer than the last one. I’ve also been working on some of my own work which has taken up some time. It might be that the brief has to be expanded to three separate blogs if there is too much for one. From last terms online journalism project, I’m aware of the fact that people are more likely to read a short article than a long one. So splitting them into three parts may be better at grabbing the audience.

Once I’ve written a draft I will start looking for links, or using ones I already have been sent to reinforce the writing.

A guest came to the office for a presentation on data presentation today which was quite interesting too.

Placement Blog: Day Two.

I finished my first piece of work issued and I’m now working on a much larger project. The brief I have been set is to write a “How to guide” regarding presenting research. This is quite a good project because it actually helps me with my own case study. I’ve spent most of the day looking through links provided and watching some TED talks and generally planning my work. I’ve been notified that this project should take a few days so I will take my time with it. Quite handy starting the placement early because I have time to get to know my role and how the company works before starting my own case study based on it.

A lot of the hard work can be done simply by reading through similar blogs and work to assess a target audience, finding this audience will allow me to tailor my work to this specific and then hopefully it will be easier to write.

Placement Blog: Day One

Today is my first day on placement; I arrived at 0930 as requested. The first thing that was required was that I learned what Commssonsult was all about as a company, and what work we would be doing. To help me learn I have been asked to look at is a research study on maternity in Nepal. This case study has already been written, but Dr Andrew (communications Manager) has asked me to go over it again and write my own version. Working on it will provide me with insight into the types of work that I will be given here, and experience in writing the house style.

This is the dialogue blog that I will be working towards.
